More information on SIPs Properties
SIPs are made by glueing insulation between two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB). Subsequently, the result is an incredibly strong and durable material. It lends itself to building homes and lots of even bigger structures. The idea is not a new one, with a similar building method being used in America as early as the 1930s. However, over time the process has been continuously improved. This has, therefore, produced the material and method that we see today. Manufacturing of these homes in the UK began around 15 years ago. This was as a result of a number of SIPs buildings being imported over from America.
SIPs generally use less timber than standard timber frame. They are therefore one of the most economical and eco-friendly types of building. They also allow for very quick assembly on site, which means quicker construction times and lower costs.
The popularity of SIPs homes is growing in the UK, particularly with self-build homeowners. We are sure to see more and more of these homes cropping up. More information on these homes can be found on the Structural Insulated Panel Association website.
